What is it

Sinsal Son Estrella Galicia is one of the most singular European festivals. It takes place during the day at an island, San Simón, located on the spectacular Vigo estuary, and the audience can only arrive to the festival by taking the boats on charter to the organization. The trip to the island is the starting point of a unique experience. The other reason that makes Sinsal Son Estrella Galicia a new model of festival is the secret line-up. Yes, you read that right. The audience does not know the name of the artists until they enter into the island. A line-up with references from all over the world, with the quality and capacity of surprising that characterize Sinsal, which only 800 people can enjoy each day.

The line up

Festival Sinsal Son Estrella Galicia line-up is secret. Since its first edition in 2003, the main commitment of Sinsal is to schedule artists that are starting their musical career or that show a big connection with the contemporary creation. Some of these names landed a few years later in the big festivals and concert rooms from around the world. The experience of the promoter Sinsal, the singularity of the event and the natural area where it takes place are a seal of quality.

The majority of the programme consists of artists that go around other prestigious Spanish and Portuguese festivals: from jazz to world music, from rock to electronic music, Sinsal Son Estrella Galicia is a festival without complexes. For this reason, it proposes to the audience a secret line-up, a musical experience beyond concrete names.

The space

The archipelago formed by San Simón and San Antón Islands, located at the end of the Vigo estuary, forms a unique place in the Rias Baixas geography that stands out both for its spatial and landscape specificity and for the layers of history overlapped in it.

The oldest documents speak of a monastic center mentioned by the troubadour Meendinho in the Middle Ages. In the sixteenth century the island was looted by the pirate Francis Drake and in 1702, as a result of the Battle of Vigo Bay, San Pedro’s church, one of its most emblematic buildings, was almost completely demolished. Later, it also suffered the invasion of French troops and periods of occupation by various monastic orders. In mid-seventeenth century the island was abandoned until June 6, 1838, when it became a leprosarium.

From 1936, at the start of the Civil War, the island changed its name to the official prison colony name, being, actually, a concentration camp where Republicans of all ideologies from Galicia and Iberian Peninsula were detained.

Its declaration as heritage of cultural interest in 1999 served to start the rehabilitation and remodeling by the architect César Portela to become the space we know today.

The Rías Baixas

The Rías Baixas region is situated in the north-eastern corner of the Iberian Peninsula, north of Portugal. There are several different ways of getting here.

It is easy to visit since the distances between its various places of interest are not too long. This will help you travel around more effortlessly once you have planned your trip based on the different experiences, resources and/or programmes you wish to try.

Beaches, rivers, gastronomy, art, sports…The Rías Baixas can be explored by different methods of transport. Visit Turismo Rías Baixas website and choose your way to explore this beautiful region.

Sponsors

About transport & accommodation

In 2016 Sinsal Son Estrella Galicia, there are 2 ports of departure: Marine Station of Vigo and Meirande Museum (Redondela). When you buy your ticket, you can choose the port of departure according to your preference.

It is located in the center of the city (Cánovas del Castillo Street, 3). You can miss it. It is the same place where boats depart for Cangas, Moaña and Cies Islands.

The museum, being the former Fábrica do Alemán, is located on the strait of Rande, going towards Redondela on N-552 road. Coordinates (42.285080, -8.656175). This port of departure specially recomemmended for all of you who are going to travel by car to the festival from North of Vigo and Redondela.

a) Via AP-9 motorway from Pontevedra:

1) Cross the Rande Bridge. 2) Take the exit number 151 on the AP-9 motorway (Teis-Chapela) towards N-552 road. 3) Take N-552 road towards Redondela. 4) Pass the Rande roundabout (Rande Bridge) towards Redondela on N-552 road. 5) From N-552 road, turn left towards Vieirasa car park (diversion indicated by the festival’s organization).

Yes, 200 meters from the jetty, in the Vieirasa containers area. The whole route, from the diversion on N-552 towards the car park, will be indicated.

In 2016 Sinsal Son Estrella Galicia, there are 2 ports of departure to reduce vehicles use because most of you will depart from Vigo. Notice that there is no festival shuttle service to the port of Meirande. But take a look at Renfe and Iberia discounts as well as special taxi services.

The organization recommends some hotels for the audience of Sinsal Son Estrella Galicia.

About the boat trip

Around 50 minutes from Vigo and 25 minutes from Meirande (Redondela).

The organization cannot be held responsible for the audience missing the boat. The organization will try to put whoever misses their transport turn in another boat, but you must be warned that if the next trips are full we cannot promise to look for a place because we will fail to comply with capacity.

No, the boat trip to San Simón has an entrance and exit schedule that we must follow due to possible capacity problems in the passenger boat..

The festival has, only for justified urgency cases, a boat for the audience. The organization will analyze any need at this respect.

About the festival

There will be food and drinks service and offer in Sinsal Son Estrella Galicia. We will have several options we will announce with its respective prices and among them choices for vegetarians, vegans and gluten intolerant people..

To Sinsal Son Estrella Galicia, you can bring food and non-alcoholic drinks.

Very important: for security purposes, the organization has to register the bags and you cannot come to the island with glass containers or cans. You cannot also bring metal forks, knives and penknives –you can bring plastic services. For the same reasons, we must take the stoppers of the bottles.

Under the current legislation, we must execute a register of the bags before entering the island. To speed up the process, we ask the audience to have their bags accessible and open. Thank you for your collaboration!

Besides, as in other protected islands –Ons or Cíes islands– we ask the audience visiting San Simón with food and plastic containers to collaborate by picking up and leaving the litter in the bins of each port –Meirande and Vigo–.

You can smoke in Sinsal Son Estrella Galicia, but only in the indicated areas and using the portable ashtrays. You cannot buy cigarettes on the island.

You can come with your children, for sure. Sinsal Son Estrella Galicia is a perfect event for a family day. In 2016 festival organization reserve a part of daily tickets for people under 16 at reduced price. People under 16 need a statement giving permission for them to join the festival. You can download the document on festival website and on tickets platform too.

You can only take photos if you take them with no profit motive in mind and always protecting the privacy of the rest of the audience.

For basic security purposes, you cannot swim in the island, as it is a rocky area with changing tides. For this reason, you cannot arrive by non-official boats either.

To Sinsal Son Estrella Galicia, it is important to bring comfortable clothes, that allow being fresh in the heat and warm at the last hours of the day, at sunset. Many people bring towels or mats so they can sit and lie on the floor in a more comfortable way. It is also important protecting yourself from the sun with sunglasses, hats or sun cream.

There is a lost property stand in the administration offices. You can write us an email to info@sinsalaudio.org with the subject: LOST PROPERTY.

It is possible, for sure. From the boat trip to moving around the festival, the organization will assist every case. It is very important to get in contact with us to the email info@sinsalaudio.org with the subject “AUDIENCE REDUCED MOBILITY”.

Sinsal Son Estrella Galicia is an event with limited capacity and you can enjoy the concerts comfortably. There are special toilets for the audience with reduced mobility and you can access every place on the island through paths or ramps. Some paths are irregular, but the organization will help with exclusive staff.

You have to go to our offices during the festival and ask for a claim form.
