The Festival Sinsal Son Estrella Galicia presents its 2016 edition
The new edition of the Festival Sinsal Son Estrella Galicia will be celebrated from the 22 to the 24 of July in San Simón Island (Redondela). The presentation took place in the Estrella Galicia space in Vigo with the appearance of the Festival’s main sponsors: Son Estrella Galicia, New Balance, Consellería de Cultura da Xunta de Galicia (Ministry of Culture of the Government of Galicia), Deputación de Pontevedra (Pontevedra Provincial Government) and concello de Redondela (Redondela Council).
Victor Mantiñán, of Estrella Galicia, performed as a host emphasising the role of the Festival Sinsal as “musical advisor, scout, one of the festivals that best embody the values of our brand”. The Festival Sinsal Son Estrella Galicia reached in 2015 the Award Fest to the Best Festival small format in Spain. Xulio Gómez, codirector of the Festival Sinsal Son Estrella Galicia together with Luis Campos, highlighted the work developed during the entire year with promotional events in Madrid, the anechoic sessions in the School of Telecommunications of Vigo or the campaign #RiasBaixasFests promoted from the Provincial Government.
The budget of the Festival Sinsal Son Estrella Galicia in 2016 is approximately of €150,000. Xulio Gómez emphasised the balance in the funding of the Festival between private sponsor, institutions and personal deposit, “with a 30% in every of these categories”. A 35% of the budget was put aside for artistic fees and a 45% was for the production. In 2016 the organization of the festival signed an agreement with ADAMI, the French agency for young musical talents.
Sinsal Son Estrella Galicia is an unique event in Europe in concept and form. “We’re neither an indie festival nor a music of the world one, nor jazz… Our identity is to offer in San Simón Island concerts for all tastes. There will be a lot of instrumental proposals but also an interesting representation of the new jongleur of the 21 century. 90% of the artists would be also featuring in the best Spanish and Portuguese festivals as the Grec in Barcelona, Jazzaldia in Donostia, La Mar de Músicas in Cartagena or Sines”, explained Xulio Gómez.
“This year we would feature 19 different artists that come from Spain, Portugal, France, United Kingdom, Lithuania, Egypt, Zimbabwe, the United States, Canada, Chile, Brasil and Argentina. There would be 3 stages: Son Estrella Galicia, New Balance and Paseo dos Buxos.
Women in the festival
Without revealing the lineup, as it’s the rule of the festival, Xulio Gómez highlighted the relevance of the women another year in this new edition of the Sinsal Son Estrella Galicia. In this sense, the festival would work in collaboration with the Unit of Equality of Vigo University to show the feminine musical creations nowadays. “This year we will feature several female artists that are and would be a reference in the international music”, said Gómez.
Right now the festival tickets for the Saturday 23rd of July are sold out, as well as all the 3-day tickets and the special price tickets for the Sunday. There are still available around 150 tickets for the Friday 22nd of July and around 100 tickets for the Sunday 24th of July, in the platform Ticketea.
Among the news, the boat that will go from Vigo the Saturday, which tickets are already sold out, would be anchored in the San Simón Island all day to offer the journeys to show the cove to the public. Also the camping pack tickets in collaboration with camping Cesantes are sold out.
While Pablo Tojeiro of New Balance stand out the mutual understanding between the brand and the festival, Xabier Alonso, city councillor of Culture in Redondela, express the origin of the festival in the island and the importance that it has for the village. The general secretary of Culture of the Government of Galicia, Anxo Lorenzo, said that Galicia might massive festival but also “the model of the festival in San Simón it is really necessary, because it is connected with the values of sustainability, familiar, with the territory”. Lorenzo showed the institutional pride that was featuring a festival like Sinsal Son Estrella Galicia. “We want the festival to continue. We know the limitations, but we also know that these limitations help in a way to the charm of the festival”.
Carmela Silva, president of the Provincial Government, was in charge of closing the press conference and she made plea for the cultural and social values of Rías Baixas and music. “We live in an area which is culture, history, language, ideas, capacity to innovate, etc. And all these values are Sinsal Son Estrella Galicia”, she reaffirmed the necessity to promote together with the example of the campaign of the Festivals of Rias Baixas. Carmela Silva which announced in 2016 she would be in the San Simón Island acclaimed the role of music in the daily life and the “crazy things, without them this types of projects wouldn’t be born and then become in international references as the Festival Sinsal Son Estrella Galicia”.
